'Bout time for new batt's I think...
It's been a while since I've checked in here, mostly because of other projects taking most of my time. I've got 4 08 Trojans in my cart. After a full charge, the cart performs as it always has. The charging time hasn't seem to have increased since I bought the cart a couple of years ago. I typically ride it on weekends over short distances - just a neighborhood cruiser. My son tends to ride it longer distances for longer periods of time. He is telling me that it seems to get start getting weak in about half the time it used to, so he brings it home as he should, and puts it on the charger. Problem is, camping season has started and I just dropped the cart off at the campground for use over the next 2 months. I'm afraid that, while the batteries haven't completely given up the ghost, they won't provide the daily ride time that we've become used to.
So, should I go looking for more Trojans, or is there a better battery that people have found to be a better option? I live in a small town and the campground is in a small town. Where is my best bet to look for batteries as far as getting what I want for the best prices? A cart dealer or somewhere else? Any idea what I should expect to pay for a decent battery? I'd hate to go find someone that will sell me batteries for $200 each only to find out I could have gotten them elsewhere for considerably less. |

I just replaced my Trojans with US batteries and couldn't be happier. I have (4) 12v and paid $159 each.

I got 8v insterstates from my mechanic, who is an interstate dealer. He got them for me lots cheaper than any of the golf cart places would/could do. If you have a mechanic, check with them and see what they can get...

Reading between the lines, are you saying your opinion is to get away from the 12v's? I've already considered the economics behind that for me, and it doesn't pan out for me given that my cart's run-time is fine for my purposes, assuming batteries in good shape. I've tried to take good care of the batteries since I've had them but this was a course cart before I owned it and who knows how they were cared for prior and/or if they were broken in anywhere near correctly. If I can get 4 or 5 years out of the next set, they will probably be the last set I'll buy before I've moved on to something else.

I've got a starter on my son's 4-wheeler that probably needs to be rebuilt or replaced. The shop that I would get to do that here is an interstate dealer. Do they have decent cart batteries or do they still not compare to Trojans or others? Maybe I can get them to get me a price anyway.

I cant say, because this is my first cart. So far though I havent had any problems with them. I think they are up there with other top brands though. Maybe someone else that has had multiple brands can chime in...
