got a new cart

Just picked up a new to me golf cart, its a 1998 36v club car. Not my first choice of carts but it just so happened to be just the right price, FREE. From what im told batteries are newer, they look fairly new and are trojan batteries. it has been sitting for about a year, and the batteries were low so i filled them with distilled water. It is charging now. Now what are some good mods to do to this cart? is the 36v a good thing or bad. Its all stock except for rear seat. I would like to get this cart in the mid 20's. thanks for any help.

There is a 85% that the batteries have been severely compromised by being left in a state of discharge for such a long period of time. You may need new batteries.
The best mod for this 36v resistor coil cart is a solid state speed control conversion. There is no good way to get the performance you want with the old 'toaster oven' speed control system.
