1996 club car 48 volt upgrade

Hello all,

What is the best bang for the buck upgrade for this model?

I really don't want to go real crazy, just a bit more speed, and keep the mod simple and somewhat cheap. I live in a really flat area, so hill climbing is a non-issue.

any and all help will be appreciated.

This is a series drive system, I assume you would like more speed? Go with the PQ Bandit rewind for your motor to gain 2-3mph for under $300 or an inexpensive hi speed motor (+5 mph) for around $400. Of course best results are obtained when you upgrade the speed control to feed these motors more amperage but, that requires upgrades to the F&R switch and cables .... That's the best way to do it.

But some guys just plug the Bandit in and go. On flat ground you may get away with that just fine.

The cart is all stock 6, 8 volt batteries.

Been hanging around here and see putting a 36 volt motor in it will give it a nice boost.

Is that basically what the bandit is (rewound to an lower voltage?

My goal is 20 MPH (18" tires) without changing the controller, F&R, etc.

Did some numbers through a calculator, seems about 5000 RPM should get her there (perhaps a bit more)

So what is this "booster switch" you speak of?

if your driving on all flat roads no hills a know the a hi speed motor should get you to 21 mph...............i have done several and have had no problems with carts.......but if there are any hills involved or you plan on towing anything i would call scotty...........................................8 )

Where do I find a high speed motor, that will work with stock controller?

And what is this boost switch?

Is the boost thing adding more batteries?


Is it possible to have the motor re-wound to 24 volts, then on demand pump, 48 volts to it for a quick blast?

call, PQ they are site sponsers , all i can tell you is the carts i have done that are used on all flats i never had an issue with stock controllers...............the boost switch i would stay away from and your getting into un knowns for me as for rewinding motor......cheapest thing and saftest is hi speed motor.............................................

By the calculator I used, 5000 RPM would get me 22 MPH.
Looks like the GE Bad Boy goes 5600, but it needs many upgrades.

At this time the budget is $500, so that rules out most time honored systems on the market.

So for the experts;

How do I get 5000 RPM for under $500?
