Radios
We will be wanting to put in a radio in our club car ds at sometime in the future. We were considering the overhead consoles as we can get a complete kit for less than $300. A dealer told me that he recommended against the overhead units due to shaking and recommended dash units.
Any thoughts on this? Our cart will mostly be used on pavement. Occasionally a dirt or gravel road, but rarely for off roading or anything. |

Re: Radios
The cab on my Carryall rattles like friggin' crazy on anything but pavement!
It doesn't interfere with the operation of the radio much, though. The CD will skip from time to time when driving on the lawn. If it wasn't already set up this way, I'd scrap the whole cab, and put the stereo in the dash. |

Re: Radios
I read the same precautions of shaking when mounting a unit overhead. I went with a dash unit. I'm driving on the beaten path a lot though. The overhead unit would be better protected from the weather.

Re: Radios
I wasn't a big fan of the overhead console option myself. You can get a dash kit that has a spot for a radio and I think they make them for DS's that have spots for 2 speakers as well. You don't have to buy a dash kit if all you really want is a radio though. I mounted my radio up under the dash with a universal under dash mount that they sell for cars. I think I paid less than 10 bucks for it online. I don't know how well that option will work on a DS vs. a Precedent, though. You need enough room to put screws in to hold the mount but you don't want them going up through the body of the cart. On my precedent, this wasn't an issue.

Re: Radios
i am using the same mount as SaltLife. I however mounted it to the roof upside down. i wanted more protection from weather. I have (2) 35ah scooter batteries in the dash on the right side pocket for juice, so no room for stereo there. I used speaker pods and just mounted the 4 speakers to the roof. It bounces up and down some but i plan on making a cross bar across the rear supports that attaches up at the roof to help stregthen and stabilize the roof. i like the speakers up high out of the way too. sounds good too

Re: Radios
In the dash, if you have an “aftermarket” add on dash with “glove box” doors, this will hide the radio from “wandering eyes”. Mine is in the left “glove box” and amp and other toys associated with system are on the left (left is bigger glove box). I have a remote for my stereo head, so I seldom have to open the glove box, just hit the remote to operate. I don’t have a top on mine, so this was the best way, I have ridden with other that had their systems in the overhead, and all but one really didn’t like the operation to the system (rattled to much or had to always tighten mounting hardware) or the appearance.

Radios
Antenna and GPS receiver mounted in the back on the motor access cover. Speakers and sub woofer are mounted in 2” PVC behind the seat with tweeters (4 ea) mounted under the dash.

Re: Radios
Between the slow moving triangle and the rear of the seats, 2” PVC pipe mounted to the seat support brackets. Two 4” speakers pointed forward, two 4 “speakers pointed aft mounted inside drain flush out tee… a normal 2” tee didn’t have the right curve for mounting as I wanted, plus I like the look of the curve. The reverb off the slow moving triangle works great to deflect the sound back to the front. The 1.5” tweeters are mounted under the “after market” dash, used a round hole drill bit and flush mounted to the bottom of the dash.
Similar to the speaker pods I have hanging in the overhead of ski boat, just smaller version... this is where the idea came from. Last edited by oconnorb; 06-23-2012 at 09:13 PM.. Reason: added info |
