Default Two questions about my 08 Precedent

I just recently bought an "08" Precedent from a guy who does custom carts. He sold me the cart for a good price, but the cart was completely stock.

I took it for a spin before I bought it and it seemed to run fine. However, when I am running at full speed on the street the motor "stutters" every now and again. Almost like I let off of the accelerator for a split second and then pressed it full again. Is there anything I should be concerned about?

Also, this cart came with a single point watering system. Should I buy a hand pump to fill the batteries or get rid of the SPWS, and if so, where do I get new replacement caps for my batteries. The cart is running the 4X12v setup. Thanks for the help in advance.

You want to look at a couple things when the cart comes up with these symptoms. Have you checked the batteries, done load test, checked water level etc... We had one doing the same thing and it ended up that the charger we were using wasn't giving the batteries a full charge. So make sure you are fully charged. Also you will want to check your speed sensor, there is a thread on here on how to check it.

I am guessing that it is your battery voltage, also check all connections and make sure they are clean and properly connected.

I would buy the hand pump there cheap and it makes watering easy!

it could also be the beginning of a speed sensor or m-cor issue?............................

I had the same issue with my 05 Precedent with 4 12v batteries. Spent alot of time here reading the forums and pretty much came up that i needed batteries.

I looked at the cost of having the batteries changed out by the club car dealer here at home and 1,000.00 was the quote. After again looking around here I settled on a battery conversion. The CC dealer picked up the cart, did the conversion, added a 48v to 12v converter for my lights, new bucket wire harness, and delivered back home for 1,700.00.

I plan on keeping this cart for years, so i justified the conversion cost to my banker (wife ).

Yesterday I installed my meter from ScottyB (which was a no brainer considering that club car pre-wired the cart for a meter) to monitor the pack so im not hauling out my fluke once a week. Other than charging and checking the water every saturday, im enjoying riding my cart.

I want to see pics of the layout of the Batteries, and how they are all stuffed in the
Old 12 volt compartment... Any chance that a few of those pictures could be posted

According to the guy I bought the cart from, the batteries were replaced in "2011". I trust the guy he appeared, and I got the impression that he was a very honest person.
Now when he delivered the cart he said that he hooked the computer up to it to test the speed and he said he "up'd" the speed on it. Is it possible that the cart is going faster than it should and the motor is cutting off to slow it down?

I am very new to golf carts, so forgive me if I sound a little green. Thanks for you help!

I need to clarify, my upgrade was done by the dealer with a Club Car conversion kit that included a new battery bucket and obc.

I think you will find this link helpful

My cart is set to speed code 3 on the controller which gives me about 14mph on my gps, on a flat surface. The stuttering i experienced before was because of low voltage from the pack, full pedal it felt like it reved up and then down and that cycle repeated about every other second. Hope that helps

Well, now I have a new problem. I disconnected one of the cables from the batteries because there was some corrosion. I cleaned the terminal and the cable and put it back and now the cart does not run.

Also, there is a very quiet clicking noise coming from one of the batteries, kind of scary. It is making the noise whether it is hooked up or not. Not sure what the hell is going on. Can someone help?

I should add, that I dropped one of the hex nuts that was holding the cable and had to leave the cable disconnected most of the day until I could get a replacement nut. (I could not find the nut I dropped, it disappeared.....) Could it be possible that breaking the circuit could drain the batteries somehow? Just throwing that out there.

Also, when I was cleaning one of the I used a wire brush and got a small spark. Could I have caused a short, is there a fuse somewhere I should check? I'm a complete noob here, sorry if I sound naive.

I have the cart plugged into the charger and it is charging, so when it kicks off I will give it another try.
