Chaning a front leaf spring should be easier!

I can't believe how much of a hassle it's turning out to be changing this front "&%@#$" leaf spring on my precedent. I mean everything is done but the **** bushings will not compress enough, I'm ready to trim them down. I don't see any way to compress them and try to slide the bracket over the leaf...I'm at least 1/4" away. There must be some kind of trick to this. I never had this problem on my ds, I'm thinking of using the "A" arm bushings which are polyurethane and much thinner? Any ideas much appreciated.

I have found that often the parts source's will by habit or lack of knowledge send out the bushings and steel sleeves for the DS instead of the euathane bushings and steel sleeves for Precedents.
