Default Battery Light Stays On

Hello,

My battery (warning light) light stays on solid whenever the cart is not in use regardless of the key position. Any steps I can take to troubleshoot and solve would be appreciated.

I have a 2006 DS that runs on 4 12v batteries. The cart is located at my lake house so it gets limited use. I haves charged the batteries for the last two nights but that didn't seem to resolve the issue. The cart still seems to run just fine as well. I have noticed that the charger does not show the amps when connected. When I connect the charger, I do hear a click so I am guessing that it may be working.

I don't have many tools at the house and since I am here for this week, I am hoping to solve the problem. I need to run out to get a voltmeter as I am guessing posting my readings may help. Right?

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks!

if the amp gage isn,t moving up then its not charging.....hearing the click means nothing unless after that your gage needle goes up...........thats why your light is on.................since the charger is clicking good chance your problem is in cart, you,ll need to test and load test batteries, check all cables and maybe try an OBC reset see if that cures it for now if it does good chance OBC is going bad...............you,ll need a digital volt meter for pack reading you need 36-38 volts for charger to come on...........................

Use a digital test meter to check if the pack voltage rises when the charger is connected to the cart..... it should slowly rise.

Sounds like the orange warning light is working and you are have a battery problem. How old are they? If 4+ years it may be time to replace them.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the newbie question but how do I test the pack with the volt meter? I am going to search now but a post here would be great. I have limited Internet access at this house and also limited to my iPhone so things are pretty slow with no 3G coverage.

I bought the cart used last July so I really don't know how old the batteries are. Are they dated somewhere? The car dealer mentioned that they were newer but that means nothing and I knew nothing about this hobby when I purchased.

Thanks again. Off to Wal-Mart tomorrow for a volt meter.

Okay, I think that I was able to test the voltage of the batteries. Each battery reads in the 11.6 or 11.7 neighborhood. When I test across the group, I get a reading of 46.8.

I am guessing that based on those readings the batteries are good. Right?

Is an OBC reset is my next step?

Also, can I continue to use the cart this week or should I keep I I the garage? It would be nice if I could continue light use back and forth to be beach (very short ride of 2 minutes) and around the community.

Thanks.

based on that reading batteries are more than dead, each one should be more in the 12.5 volt range after a full charge............................

Thanks. I posted an image to double check that I used the meter properly as I was not certain. I will charge the batteries again tonight and get another reading in the morning.

For the rest of tonight, I am going to start shopping for new batteries. Any thoughts here would be of help too.

Thanks,
T.Wells
