Default Tripped charger

I have a 48 volt charger that keeps tripping. What causes this?
Thanks, Mudfreak

Welcome to the forum MUDFREAK...................

Could be a bad diode in the charger or a shorted battery. Test all the batteries for the proper voltages. If they are ok, It'll be the charger.

If you can get your hands on another charger like yours, that'll tell you what it is immediately.

Check the dates on the batteries too........ Usually on the lead pads next to the studs, you should find a date code.

If your batteries have had the proper care, you've probably just got bad diodes in the charger.

One must be knowlegeable of basic electronics and know how to operate a DVM. The diodes have to be tested with the DVM or DMM. They are different in appearence in different chargers so I cant tell you what to look for.

An internally shorted battery will also trip it. It will also decrease your range, performance etc. Test the voltage across the pack. You need to make sure you do not have an internally shorted battery because they can explode. A good battery load tester will make the bad battery rear it's ugly had if you have one.
