Voltage Reducer Suggestions?
I'm doing some major converting to my cart right now and I have it totally down to the frame - I was wondering if someone can recommend me a good voltage reducer to put in my setup. I'll be running 8 6v batteries and would like to power lights, a winch and eventually a radio. not all at once of course. What can you guys recommend? How Much? Where to get?
I'm mounting my controller and have space to put the reducer beside it so I'd sure like to get one in place before I put the body back on! Thanks!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: Voltage Reducer Suggestions?
I want enough power to be running a winch and lights at the same time with no issues.

Re: Voltage Reducer Suggestions?
I do not know much about winches but that seams like a huge power draw for a voltage reducer. You probably are not going to use it that much but I think I would just hook it up to 12 volts off the battery pack and maybe switch it around every so often, and then get a reducer for your lights and radio, etc.. Or maybe get a dedicated battery to run your accessories.
Do you know the power requirements of the winch? I can't imagine a 25 or 30 amp reducer is gunna cut it. But then again I don't know that much. |

Re: Voltage Reducer Suggestions?
I have a 1,000 lb winch that melted the 70 amp relays used to control it via a SPDT toggle switch...
I checked on Warn's site and their 2,500 lb winch claims to need 96 amps when pulling a 1,500 lb load... |

Re: Voltage Reducer Suggestions?
A winch will cook a voltage reducer. I would suggest a separate 12 volt deep cycle to run a winch.

You guts are right. The rich wouldn't work on the reducer. I had to hook it up to 2 batteries in the pack.
