Club Car tire clearance?
So I have been delving into the vast world of golf and utility tire specs in preparation of an electric Club Car rebuild.
I will not be lifting the cart but increasing the tire size for aesthetics and function in that order. I have been crunching the numbers and it looks as though I can go as high as 20.00 inches and not have rub. I will be purchasing a new set of 10x7 wheels with a -1 offset. Right now my top pic is the Carlisle Turf Master 20x10x10 with 20.00x8.8x10 specs which should just stick out a little putting the apex of the tire tread well within my wheel well. Any opinions or suggestions out there? |

I have an interest in this as well. I know increasing tire size increases speed, but what is the maximum size tire I can put on a stock 85 club car. Don't want to spend the money to lift it. Yet anyways.

Re: Club Car tire clearance?
I saw your thread, I have the later version, the gain will be neglible. A cart with standard 18" tires will go about 19 mph, a cart will go just over 21mph with 20" tires. But that is slightly noticeable, and BIGGER TIRES do look good.

Not sure what kind of cart you're driving, but I'm getting 14-15mph max. If I could get a 2mph increase by adding larger tires it would be worth it for the speed gain and look.
So what is the max you can add without a lift? |

Larger tires, or airing them up, changes the effective gearing. I was nearly able to fit 22" Mazda Miata rims on my Carryall without a lift, needed less than an inch more to clear. So it's likely a 20" tall tire will be able to fit. You may need to space the tires out, depending on the wheel offset, so that the tire doesn't rub when the front wheels are turned. Here's a graph of acceleration vs tire pressure, and a 22" wheel overlaid: |
