Default CC Cart has power but does not go.

I have a 1996 Club Car ds that I bought 2 months ago. Everything ran fine until my son was driving it up a steep dirt road when it stopped and have not been able to get it to run since.
The voltage seems ok at 50 volts. When the ignition is turned to on and put into forward or reverse (lever type) I hear a clicking from the solenoid. I have tried to jump between the two large post on solenoid with back end jacked up and pressing the accelerator but to no avail nothing. I'm not sure if i did it correctly.
BTW the charger works fine.
Any other suggestions that I could do to trouble shoot to find the problem?

Thanks

Unhappy Re: CC Cart has power but does not go.

I have tested all the batteries (at full charge) and seems ok. All batteries tested 8.5 volts each and 50.1 volts together with no load. With load batteries all tested at 7.9 each.
Hydrometer readings for all cells are at 1.300 at full charge.

Let me add one more thing to my dilemma. I tried to test the solenoid again cause I realized I did not do it correctly the first time. While setting up this test I accidentally made contact with the two small terminals on the solenoid with power turned on and pedal pushed down, now after all the sparks the solenoid does not click any more. My assumption is that I just fried the solenoid or (gulp) the controller.

I know the computer is ok? it still charges the batteries. How do I test the controller?

I bought a new solenoid its an albright it's what was in the cart before. Hooked everything up and still no clicking sound on it even though there is power to the large posts (50.7 volts). When I turn key on and have it in forward and push down on the pedal I get power to the top two small terminals (same voltage) but no clicking or anything on the solenoid.
I did the test again on the solenoid the right way this time and no response of anything. No spinning wheels which is good but no clicking sound from the solenoid which I would expect it would do.
I'm thinking controller but I do have a question with my cart. There is a black box under the passenger side mounted on the frame with two connectors attached to it. Is that a motor controller? and can that possibly been taken out when I shorted out the old solenoid? or is it more likely the controller next to the solenoid? How do I test these to see if they are good or bad?

I'm new to all of this and trying to learn as I go.

Let's start with the basics before we start pointing fingers are expensive parts. You said in your first post that when you put the car in F or R with the key on that the solenoid would click. But in your most recent post you mentioned that there was no clicking from the solenoid. What's it doing? The solenoid is the first thing we need to make work. Not a single component in the system matters until you get that solenoid clicking.

I'm not sure if you read my second post, I accidentally made contact across the two small terminals on the solenoid while they were hot. That's when the clicking stopped on the solenoid. I assume I damaged the solenoid and/ or other components not to mention why the cart stopped running originally.
I hope this info helps. Thanks

I missed it somehow... You've either blown a microswitch or shorted the OBC. You'll need to check for 48V at the small posts with pedal down to see if you're getting power to the solenoid. After that you'll need to determine whether you're missing positive or negative. Grab your multimeter and set it to 200VDC. Put positive probe on the pos side and neg on the yellow. with f and r switch in fwd or reverse and pedal down with key on, it should show voltage. If it doesn't, leave red lead where it's at, move black to B- on controller and try again. If you see voltage it means you're missing the negative charge and the OBC must be replaced. If you still dont, reverse your steps and put the black lead back on the small yellow wire on the solenoid and move red lead to the large red wire of the solenoid. If you see voltage, the OBC is fine and you must narrow your problem down to either the microswitch on the F&R switch or in the potbox/vglide/mcor whichever the case may be.

After going thru the steps you requested it looks like I have a bad obc.

Here are the steps I took just to make sure I did them correctly.

First I checked to make sure that I had good volts going to the solenoid and it checked out good both large post then small posts with key turned on and f & r lever flipped to forward and pedal pushed down all check out at 50.7 volts.

Next as per your instructions placed the red probe of meter to + side of small posts and the black to the other with yellow wire attached to it. I pushed down on the pedal with key on and f & r lever in forward and meter shows there is no current.

Next I moved the black lead to the -b post on controller and pushed down on pedal and got voltage.

I have one question, more for my education than anything else. The on board computer manages the charging system, so now I have a bad obc and that will keep the cart from running? I mean obviously so, it must be disabling something else on the cart to keep it from running. The only thing I can think would be the safety feature is stuck/fried/broken (if you will)to keep the cart from running while charging.

I guess I need to order a obc. Any suggestions the best place to get one for the least amount of $$?

Thanks, I appreciate the help and advice.
