Uneven acceleration

I have a1987 electric club car 36V. Replaced the solenoids to correct a problem. When I drive the cart it is very uneven increase in speed with "jumps" during the acceleration.
Today I put it up on a jack and here is what I found when I listen for the solenoid clicks. The clicks I get are #1, #2, #3, it skips #4 and then I get a click on #5. I replaced the #4 solenoid but still had the same result. My cart uses the electric speed switch assembly (it is pre V-Glide) so I guess that is the problem. Can that be repaired or do I need to buy a new one? Also what I noticed and can't figure out is that after I hear the click on #1 the wheels do not turn. They don't turn until click #2. Any thoughts on that? Thanks for any help.

It won't go one #1 solenoid, that's the master switch which readies the #2-5 to go. The speed selector switches can be replaced individually in the little silver box at the end of the accelerator linkage.

Exactly what ScottyB said. But be careful with those tiny bolts that hold the microswitches in place. They're fragile. Also, you may want to replace the slide mechanism. It's the plastic piece that actually presses the microswitches up when you apply throttle. They get grooves worn in them over time.

i,m not sure of price but it may be worth it to just buy the whole box with all 5 microswitches and a new slider in there already than all you have to do is swap boxes........no messing with every switch and oldslider.....chances are if 1 of the micros went might not be long before some of the others follow.......as david said be careful with those little tiny nuts and bolts...........................

Thanks for the suggestion Shadowman but I've already ordered the switch and slider. The whole assembly costs over $100 and the switch and slider are under $8. BTW my cart really slows down going up a hill. What would you suggest to pep up this old buggy.

It's the nature of the beast. You're dealing with 30+ year old technology. A 48V conversion and a solid state controller conversion will get you what you want.

It gets rid of the resister setup completely, allowing longer run time and better power.

If I can ever get the house to quit blowing up stuff like the Hot Water Heater that recently decided to take a permanant vacation, and my truck to quit taking what was left of my cart fund like it recently did by blowing out the #7 Coil, I fully plan on purchasing the kit for my '88 Club Car DS.

You know the Fords too well.. I have worked at a dealer for 22yrs. The older 5.4 did have an issue with the spark plug design but redesigned it in the later models. Never had an issue in mine as carbon would build up where the plug entered the head and the plug would break off when trying to remove. At the time warranty would replace the head but now Ford has come out with an approved repair kit. Now lets talk about the new 5.0L in my new truck...
