Power Drive 3 for Club Car DS
I just purchased a 2001 Club Car DS. I downloaded a copy of the owners manual for both the cart and the charger. I notice in the charger manual, the model numbers are different than the one I got with this cart. This model # is 26560, a Power drive 3 charger. Seems to be charging, however, I have yet to get it to kick off automatically. The lowest I can get the amp numbers is down to 7. I have had it charging several different times, but not for more than 3 hours at a time. Charger gets really warm, but the battery light on the dash has not come on. Just wondering if this could be the wrong charger.

Re: Power Drive 3 for Club Car DS
you have to leave it on for maybe a minimum of 16 hours before charger will sgut off......3 hours isn,t doing anything..............its very important to leave charger on until its done and that could take 12 plus hours but if everything is working it will shut off at 16 hours....nothing wrong if its warm now hot to the touch ???? warm ok..............you have to leave the charger do its job..........................................

That car doesn't care which flavor of PowerDrive chargers is charging it... btw PD3 chargers get HOT. Make sure it's well ventilated. Leave it on charge for 16 hours or so and see what it does.

Re: Power Drive 3 for Club Car DS
Thanks for the advice. I did hook the charger back up last night around 6:30pm. When my wife came home home from work today around 4:30, the charger had in fact kicked off. Don't know yet if the batteries were fully charged when it kicked off, or if it was the 16 hour thing. I read somewhere to let the batteries settle approximately 12 hours, and then hook the charger back up. Either it would kick back off shortly, if they were fully charged, or they would continue to charge until they did reach a full charge. Does this sound right? I haven't checked each battery yet with a voltage meter to see what each battery had. I also read that on top of each negative post is supposed to be a letter and a number stamped on it to tell the year of the batteries. Don't know if this is true or not, but mine do not have anything stamped on them. As you can tell I am a newbie when it comes to carts. Just purchased this one for the campsite we have leased.

Re: Power Drive 3 for Club Car DS
yes if charger times out at 16 hours wait an hour or so and plug it back in .....that will happen if your not letting the batteries fully charge.......its very important that once you plug charger in you leave it go until its done......no wainting a few hours and than opps need to run somewhere on cart, always let charger do its job.....most golfcart batteries have a # and letter stamped into one of the post on each battery..........like if you see C-11 that would be march of 2011 ...................................

Re: Power Drive 3 for Club Car DS
Thanks. I will plug the charger back in and either let it finish charging, or see if in fact it had finished earlier when it shut down. I have checked all the negative posts, and have nothing stamped on them. I will check the positive ones also. I had heard that they were only on the negative posts, so that's why I only checked those. These aren't the top of the line batteries, by any stretch of the imagination

Just plugged the charger back in and NOTHING. Charger will not even come on. Hit the reset button on the front and still nothing

Car is in sleep mode. Unplug charger and cycle solenoid one time by hitting the go pedal with it in fwd or reverse with key on. Plug charger back in.
