16 volts to a 12 volt horn
Hello, I am new and this forum and it is the bomb. I have a new(to me) 2009 Precedent. 6- 8 volt battery pack. The dealer I purchased the cart from wired a 12 volt Buggies Unlimited type horm to one battery(8 volts). It works but sounds sick. Has anyone wired a 12 volt horn to two batteries and push it with 16 volts? Will it fry anything? Thank you for any help.

Re: 16 volts to a 12 volt horn
Go for it, if it is just a horn, not some type of music player , it should sound about 2-3 times as loud on 16v

Re: 16 volts to a 12 volt horn
Thanks, Thats what I wante to hear(honk,Honk). I was kind of worried about the wires or the switch. What the H**L. I will be talking to you soon about one of your meters. If I made a L bracket and mounted the meter right under the switch console, I wunder how that would look?

Re: 16 volts to a 12 volt horn
why not just put a 48 volt to 12 volt reducer in it and be done with it......your gonna need to keep an eye on horn wires as they may just melt and cause some other issues............................................ ..

Re: 16 volts to a 12 volt horn
Thats kind of what I was afraid of. Wires or the switch melting. I guess I could hook it up at 16volts and blow heck out of it and feel the wires and switch to see if they like it?

I hook horns up to 16 volts all the time. Never had an issue, other than it being freakin loud

Re: 16 volts to a 12 volt horn
I've seen an idiot co-worker hook one up to 48 Volts! Not good! It kind of sounds like a sick cow for about a half second and then nothing happens after that. It's done. Nowhere near as cool as the 48V to the headlight bulbs! It's like a strobe light that only flashes once before the bulbs explode and glass goes everywhere.

Re: 16 volts to a 12 volt horn
david i agree they will and do work but every once in awhile just like the lights running off 16 volts i have seen them melt like warm butter................and it only taker it to happen once for me where i won,t repeat it.....................if they want it done its either done right or take it elsewhere................it no big deal if it just melts a few wires but in a few cases damage went a bit further......i have to say i,m surprised a C.C. dealer would do that hook it up on 16 volts....man thats just asking for it..............................................
