Battery Cable Question
Hello, newbie here wondering what the best way to splice a 6 ga. battery cable would be? When I bought my cart the existing main + 6 ga. cable existing in the 2000 Club Car was corroded so I cut off the corroded portion and I bought some more 6 ga cable. I was wondering the best way to splice these so I get the length back to make the connection to the battery? Thanks in advance for help with this

Re: Battery Cable Question
Thanks for the reply. Actually I ordered it through a golf cart store (260 strand I believe?) Wish I had known this before, as I spent about 30.00 on this piece of wire due to shipping charges! So your saying that I should just change the main + and main - wire to 4 ga like the rest of the cables that I purchased? Also found a related post on this and this was the advice given re: changing the cables. Wondering what your thoughts were on this?
"Yes, just the # 6 wires, if you are unsure about the wiring, just do them one at a time and make sure you hold the bottom nut on the motor studs and don't let the stud spin at all. I usually spray penetrating oil on those the day before the project. Best to use 2 wrenches, no socket/ratchets" Let me know if this sounds like good advice for changing these? Thanks again for the help, Jake |

Re: Battery Cable Question
4g welding cable should be over 400 strands. Anything less is substandard... now if you had to splice a cable you would cut it back to clean material, flux and solder it.... if you had to. Sounds like you may need a new set of cables.

Re: Battery Cable Question
Just bought this cart and it had no batteries. I purchased brand new set of 8v batteries and decided that I would upgrade to 4ga cables while I was at it. The 260 strand wire is 6ga (not 4ga) and as I understand this is good quality 6 ga. wire. The existing wires for the main + and - were 6 ga and I thought that I could just cut off corroded part of cable and splice with some high quality new? Now from feedback it sounds as though I wasted the 30.00 and should have just purchased new 4ga wires to replace the oem existing 6 ga? Thanks again to all that have helped out here

Re: Battery Cable Question
Sounds logical to me. How many other cables need to be changed to 4 ga to do this right? I just got some other advice that I should change the other wires that go from the switch to the motor and controller as well?? Thanks again for the help!

Re: Battery Cable Question
all of them, the chain (battery cable) is only as good as it's weakest link.

Re: Battery Cable Question
Ok. Sounds good. How much should I expect to pay for the rest of the high quality 4 ga. cables? I already have the 5 shorter ones for the batteries themselves. Thanks again
