Default Slow 85 Ds Club Car

Hi I'm new here and after reading some of the post this seems to be a pretty good site. Maybe somebody can help. I just picked up a 1985 Club Car Ds (was suppose to be a 96-another story) I took the cart anyway. The problem right now is the cart goes pretty good on the level, but it is very slow going up a hill. I have replaced one battery in it, cleaned all the battery cables and I check the voltage (all batteries are around 6.4V and as a group their at 36.5 or higher. The cart is in ruff shape to say the least, but I figure it would be a good project to play with. Any thoughts will be helpfull.

38.2 is a full charge....36.5 is about 50% depleted... or time to recharge.

Attach your meter to the pack and tell us what the voltage drops to going up hill

No problem, lots of tricky old batteries show a decent voltage when standing but drop a cell when under load, 6v instantly turns to 4v and even if it's it just one battery doing it the cart seems to fall on it's face.

its an 85 i take it it has 5 solenoids? are they all working? if any arn,t that would also effect speed of cart as scotty mentioned make sure your dealing with a good battery pack 1st and keep in mind speed for that cart is 10 to 12 mph and even slower going uphill thats just the nature of an elec cart..........................................

That's right, I hadn't even gotten that far And yes slowing on hills is something all electric cart drivers have to come to grips with.
I did pick up on that all batteries were around 6.4 (x6=38.4= full)but the pack reads 36.5 = 2 volts down which is the value of one cell, hmm?

Ok finally got a chance to check the batteries in "Hoky Poky"

Battery

1 2 3 4 5 6
6.36 6.38 6.38 6.33 6.43 6.40 = 38.28

CHARGED
6.52 6.55 6.53 6.49 6.60 6.56 = 39.25

Number 4 is a new battery.

I forgot to add this.

It has 5 solenoids. How do I check to see if they are OK. They are pertty dirty and hopefully I will be taking the body off and I want to clean them up ( all contacts and wires) to see if that makes a difference.

K now what are they under a load? Basically put meter on cart and with seat off test each battery when pedal is pressed down and see what they drop to...post findings...be careful you can hold brake a little but dont hold accel peddle down for a more than a few seconds it can cause cart damage...
