Rotted battery brackets

I noticed the angle brackets or channels the batteries sit in are starting to eat through from the years of corrosion (9. Any good home remedies for this? I do have a MIG and Aceytelen cutting torch, but no alum wire feed spool gun and have never gas welded alum before.

Alot of times if customer needs cart back faster than I can get it to welding shop I will put angle iron pieces of steel across and bolt into place...then simply paint them to prevent corrosion...Most common cause for all the corrosion is batteries being overfilled with water...water should only go 1/8 inch over the plates...not all the way to top...

I just finished cutting all of my out. I still have a LOT of cleaning to do before I can get it welded. I got the 1"x1"x1/8" angle at Home Depot. The bolting them in like camaroluvz28 said would be a lot faster and easier. You can still use aluminum angle and bolt them in with stainless steel bolts.

Thanks, I was wondering about the bolts, have not looked hard enough at it to see if the bolts would clear the battery, and or let the battery sit level in the bracket. You using carriage bolts or plain old hex cap stainless.

i have used bed frames with good results..........a bit heavier than normal but they work well.....once in and fitted i cover them with rubber dip stuff....................

I use 1/8" angle,usually 1-1/2"-wide and lay a piece of rubber-flap in the bottom as well.Most of the time I weld up the frames so that the battery(s) fits snug,then add the hold-downs.I also use machine-head or button-head bolts,so that they are rounded and won't cut thru the flap and damage the bottoms of the battery-cases

Bolting is fine, but use low profile bolt heads or you risk damaging or piercing the battery case.
