I actually just checked online and found some for sale. I'm very much thinking I might do this to save money going to work and grocery store runs. I live in the suburbs but the grocery stores are only 2-3 miles away and I work 3 miles from home. Might be better to put the money in a golf cart and have it paid off within 5 years and have a golf cart to show for it.

Looked up the law on it and I was surprised to see that it said no faster than 25mph. That is the only part that makes me nervous. I don't know that I would feel comfortable driving on the streets around my house at less than 40mph. I think folks would want to run me off the road.

First of all how easy is to get a golf cart going 40mph?

Second, what is the likelihood of getting in trouble?

Thanks

Tom

I think and I could be wrong but, my understanding is if the cart is street legal it can only be driving on roads with a speed limit of 25MPH or less.

its 35 or less im gunna get mine legal someday,i read that i need front brakes,a dot approved windshied, and all sorts a crap, but it can be done,it has to be electric no gas powered,i would get it legal first and after you get plates and insurance make it go 40 mph,im gunna take my back seat off that way i dont need 4 seat belts, the brakes seem to be the hardest part

I ride mine everyware and it is gas, I ride it in the street and have never been stoped. I look at it this way don't break the law and you will be fine. People ride scooters and minibikes and motor skate boards on the road and never get stoped, so what is the big deal. Now mine don't have a windshild yet but has everythig else. and the best way to get a windshild is use speedglass it is dot aproved and you can cut it. I think that the police have better things to do than give you a hard time. I live in the brubs and I know that at least 5 people have golf carts that drive on the roads. With that said I do not drive mine on the main roads just drive mine on the side streets. I do however cross the main roads.

Mine is street legal in Michigan as of yesterday. I had fill out the proper form (TR-54?) and have a police officer inspect everything (seat belts, lights, hazards, windshield, mirrors, etc) Front brakes were not needed. I had to apply for a VIN at the SOS and pay a couple bucks for a temp plate until they physically come to my house and install the VIN on my cart. I am allowed on 35 MPH roads or less. Must stay to the right as to not cause congestion. My cart needed to and does go at least 21 MPH and have DOT approved tires. I estimate that on top of the purchase of the cart (Precedent 04) I spent $1700 start to finish to get it safe and legal. I probably didn't need custom rims or a 30 Amp voltage reducer but go big or go home I guess. Anyways, I hope to enjoy years of carting around my modestly sized town and neighborhoods with the family.
