Charging problem

i have a 2000 model clubcar with 2010 batts. they all read around 9.8 and 48, 49 together. i have been having trouble charging.... the batt level meter on the cart hasnt been registering over a half charge. i brought it to the shop and they did a load test and it lasted 88 minutes and they said the on board batt level meter was bad and replaced it. i got it home and put it on charge and the meter never went more than half charge. i drove it for over 3 hours before the meter started to flash indicating it needed to be charged. i put it on charge, after a few seconds the charger kicked on and went from about 10 amps back down to just under 5. i left it on the charger for about 5 hours, when i checked it the on board batt meter was still flashing red. i could hear the batteries "sizzling" and the charger was still on. i attempted to do the OBC reset, i disconnected the lead wire on the left going to the creme colored box, put it in reverse (there is not back up alarm) and depressed the pedal for 5 mins and reconnected everything. its back on the charger. any thoughts on what the problem is?

Are you sure about the voltage, 9.8 is too high for a 8v and too low for a 12v
48,49v is too low for a fully charged pack, shud be about 50.9 and each battery 8.49v or 12.73v

Get a little better readings and tell about your setup. Also, when your charger is charging, don't stop it.

i new to the cart world so i will do my best to give the information correctly and in the right terms........
i have a 2000 club car DS to the best of my knowlege its 36volts. there are 6 batteries but i could not find the volots listed on any of them.

the batteries are all reading 8.6 amps except one is reading 8.4. overall it reads 51.5. with the charger on the batts it reads 58.8.

when i turn the key on the dashboard batt meter is 2 bars flashing red.

i put it back on charge when i got home from work and let it charge for 4 hours the on dash meter went to full charge and the batt amps went to 60+ and the charger wouldnt cutoff. im thinking the OBC needs to be reset but i didnt have any luck with that last night.

i disconnected the left battery cable leading to the OBC depressed the pedal and put it in reverse, i left it that way for 5 minutes. there is no back up alarm, if the backup alarm is suppose to drain what power is left, that may be why its not resetting......

you need to put everything back the way it should be and let the charger do its job......5 hours or 6 or 8 isn,t enough sometimes, plug charger in and leave it alone it may take up to 16 hours and if its still charging at 16 hours charger will shut off if everything is ok......its not uncommon at all for the charger to sit at 5 amps or less for 8 hours and forget about your meter until batteries are fully charged.......try this you may find theres nothing wrong other then the batteries just need a good full charge now if your charger runs 17 hours that indicates a problem..............................

If the batteries have 4 cells each its a 48v. With the charger on its quite natural for the total voltage to get to +-64v before it cuts off. The 58v you see means that the batteries have some way to go before full charge. As shadowman says give the charger a chance to do its thing.
