Default 98 club car doesn't wanna go!

Hello All,
I am new to your forum, and fairly new to carts. I bought a 98 cc, 48 volt about 2 months ago and it has been running great. However, about a week ago, it sat outside for a couple days and didn't get on the charger. When I hopped on it to take it to the garage, it was going VERY slow, I didn't even think it was gonna make the 200 yard trip! I assumed the batteries were just low. When I got off of it at the garage, I notice a slight burning smell. I opened up the seat and couldn't find anything hot, burning, smoking etc. I again assumed it was because the batteries were low, and maybe the motor was straining to move because of it. Anyway, I charged it overnite and the next day it was a little better, but not like normal after a charge...it has slowly gotten worse, and now it will barely move. The bateries are showing 48 w/o the charger, and 52 with the charger hooked up, all water is good, batteries are 2010 Kings. All battery connections have been cleaned. While checking the battery connections, I found a faint burned smell on the what I discovered is the "potentiometer"? Could this be the culprit, or not likely? What else can I check? Serial # is: A9837-694370 Any info on this is GREATLY appreciated!

Fully charged batteries shud be 51v without charger and +- 64v near the end of a charge. Seems your batteries are +-45% charged. Is your charger being allowed to switch itself off. Can be up to 16hrs.

The charger only charges the batteries to about 52 or 53 volts before it shuts itself off...it is a cc "Power drive" charger. I unhook it and hook it back up, and it will run a few minutes and shut off again-never more than 53 volts...does this sound right?
