"Too big"

I got my PQ motor last night, got up this morning and started putting the new motor in, it won't go, the one that came out is 7" long, the new one is 10.5" long. The end of the housing hits the shock and upper shock mount. If lifted it would clear the shock mount but it still will hit the shock. Make a new lower shock mount, problem solved but is this the norm. Has anyone else run in to this? I already have a 6" lift (not installed) and I can make a new longer lower shock mount. I just need to know others have had this problem before I start making chances.

Yes it is for sure something your going to deal with. I also installed a new motor and initially the shock was an issue. However that problem was corrected with the lift kit and more importantly making sure the plate that is under the leaf spring is rotated as far as it will let you to move the shock ever so slightly closer to the leaf spring. I have maybe 1/2 an inch of clearance, but everything is more then ok. I've made several trips and have checked it numerous times, nothing touching yet.

I know a few other guys have said some people have had to make changes to the shock plate, but I don't know that this is a common problem.

Okay thanks, I just wanted to be sure the motor was correct before I made modifications. Well, I guess I'll get started on the life kit first.

I really didn't want to lift it yet, and then it hit me, leaf spring axle shims, I use to use them on my lifted 4x4 truck to set pinion angle. All I have to do is clock the diff forward and I'll lift it later.
