Default One Brake sticking

Another day, another problem :-)

1985 Club Car.

The right rear brake is hanging up on me. There are 2 potential problems that could either be causing it, or maybe both contributing to it.

(Disclaimer--I am not a mechanic and do not have a manual so please bare with me on the names I use to describe these parts)

#1 There is an arm like part coming out of the housing that the cable hooks to. The one on the right side is NOT releasing when I let up on the brake, so I'm betting that is the biggest problem. I was told NOT to spray it with WD-40 until I found out if that would hurt it, as sometimes I guess brake parts don't like it.. So, there is question #1, can/should I spray it to see it it will loosen up?

#2 The second issue I didn't actually see, but a friend who was under the cart noticed it. About 1/3 to 1/2 way back the brake cable, he said there was a ring that was broken, that the cable either passed through, or somehow hooked to. Again, I do not have a manual, so do not know what to call it, or if it would even have anything to do with sticky brakes. So #2, what is it, and does it need to be replaced?

Thank you in advance for your help.

After doing more searching, I think the part in question #2 is the parking brake spring. I doubt that is the problem, but probably should still be fixed.

What do you think about question #1... will WD-40 hurt anything?

pretty common thing. once the brake sticks just simplly unhook it at the wheel and see if it releases the brakes. If it doesnt then look inside the brake drum for issues. If it does release then assume its a cable issue (like rusted up inside the sheething or some chafing causing it to catch) OR something like a bracket etc.. is rubbing thru to the cable
