noob..battery confirmation..anyone?
Hello there...
First time cart owner..Great forum BTW.. My wife and I just purchased a 96 CC DS 48 volt for us and the two little kiddos to cruise around the neighborhood and for our occasional trips to Disney World's campground.. Good news..The cart is in good shape..seems to be well maintained. Currently has Trojan batteries on board. Here is the bad news..... 4 batteries are from 08 1 is from late 07 1 is recon from 2010 a mix of 860 and 875's, too...oh boy... I know what your thinking, "go buy new batteries".. I'd love to, but we are getting ready to leave for Disney in a week and they are sure to take most of my 'extra' $$$$.. Here are readings from my last trip around the neighborhood approx 5 miles..(before and after): BEFORE: Lowest battery at 8.37, highest at 8.64...Total reading 50.8 V AFTER: Lowest battery 8.2, highest battery8.4..Total reading 50.4 Volts I have NOT taken a hydrometer reading yet (need to pick up a hydrometer). In your expert opinions, do these sound like batteries that will get me through a week at Disney, or do I change these suckers out? Local prices are showing $550 for Powertrons and $670 for Trojans.. Just don't want to get stranded in the 'Happiest place on earth' with my wife, a 16 month old and a 3 month old.... I have read the stickies and done a fair amount of surfing and chatting on this and still not feeling too confident... Thanks in advance for any help you can throw my way.. Ryan |

Going by the state of charge chart in the stickies. At 50.4 volts after the 5 mile ride you are still at about 85% to 90% charged. I see no reason why they wouldn`t last the week at Disney. That is still a real good charge rate after 5 miles!!

Going off the State of Charge chart, that's what the wife and I were thinking, but we are new to this and wanted to be safe.
Any thoughts on the Powertrons 8000 vs Trojand 875? Worth the extra $$ for the Trojans? Thanks again! |

So you will not have an electrical source at Disney? If you do take the charger and chargem every day. I would never run mine multiple days w/o charging, that is bat suicide. Good luck though

Re: noob..battery confirmation..anyone?
New batteries are only 75% of potential until 'broken in' which takes many cycles at low discharge and recharge, so that's not a good option .

Re: noob..battery confirmation..anyone?
I will be charging at night and throughout the day at several charging 'stations' throughout the campground.
So, new batteries at this point in time would be a bad option for us? Meaning they won't be ready in time to use for the trip next week (10/6)? Thanks again to everyone.. |

Re: noob..battery confirmation..anyone?
Thats about my rate. My batteries are 3 yrs old(8V) and I can go around 5 miles(hills and straight) and my meter shows around 10 percent drop. I do this 2 -4 times and recharge.
