Club Car Charging Issues
I am having problems with my club car when I try to charge it. I have two chargers for it. One is an older one. When I plug it in sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it will charge, but only at 3 or 4 amps, then after 15-30 minutes it shuts down, every now and then I can plug it in and it will charge at higher amps, but that is pretty rare.
The newere charger is a 5 stage charger. It goes into its start up stage, but after a while shuts down and blinks red, which means there is a problem. The batteries are maybe a month old. It would not charge at all before the new batteries, but some of the wiring had to be replaced in the cart itself. The wiring to the plug in the cart. After that the charger would at least kick on. The cart runs fine when I can get it to charge. The only thing that I can think of that has not been replaced on the cart is the on board computer. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the computer so could this cause the above mentioned problems? Whatever advice you can give me is much appreciated. Thanks |

Re: Club Car Charging Issues
If you have a standalone charger you don't need the OBC.

Re: Club Car Charging Issues
Buy stand alone charger, cut the grey wire off the charging receptacle and trash it, cut the black wire off the receptacle and put it on the last B- or controller B-, remove OBC, cut yellow wire from the three wire plug and add a ring terminal the put it on the controller B-. Plug in stand alone charger.
Doesn't seem like much to do to me. |

Re: Club Car Charging Issues
I would be interested in hearing opinions on which does the best job charging and conditioning the bats, a good DPI charger ot the stock setup with OBC.
With all the OBC problems I read about might be a good time to remove it and sell it with the charger, probably come out ahead on the deal. |

Re: Club Car Charging Issues
Bought my DPI for $305 shipped and sold the stock charger for $160. The difference is less than a new OBC from a reputable dealer (no online junk). And the DPI is an automatic 5 stage 17A charger.

Re: Club Car Charging Issues
It's a 1998. I've tried the OBC reset. I haven't had luck doing that but maybe I'm not doing right. I'm disconnecting what I call the main negative cable from the battery. The negative that runs to the back of the cart. When I "lock" the throttle down I just push it down and hold it. Does any of that sound wrong? I've never heard the reverse buzzer but honestly don't know if there still is one.
