Default '93 36V Club Car - hot solenoid?

'93 Club Car - 36V with multistep potentiometer v-glide and curtis controller. Had issues earlier in year and a lot of stuff was 'bush' mechaniched by someone else.
Recently purchased and installed new solenoid (sits mounted just behind passenger seat), resistor, diode, Multistep v-glide, microswiches for f/r switch, fuse and recepticle. Batteries are new and read 38V when charged. All connections are tight.
Took for test run (maybe 3kmon flat road)and all seems to be fine; maybe a little slow (however I have been riding in another 48V recently...) not sure.
Returned home and solenoid was warm/hot to the touch - is this normal?
Thanks,
Andrew

Welcome to BGW!

Yes, a solenoid in a sparky cart gets warm. ALL of the pack energy passes through it when driven.

If the solenoid is under sized it will get hotter than 'normal'. What size Control and solenoid are you using?

Thank you.
Solenoid is standard Club Car 36V solenoid. Black cylindrical turret about 2.5" tall.
Controller, not sure; will need to check and get back to you.

Took it for another run, with voltmeter attached. Pedal not pressed reading 38V; when running on good flat road drops to about 36.6V; on grass drops to 35.8-36.3V and uphill drops to about 35V.

All normal??

Thanks,
Andrew
