cart keeps pulling to left when I let go of wheel
On a 91 DS 36 volt resistor cart, The driver side front tire was worn down to nothing on the outer portion of the tire.
I installed a new tire and took a test drive. When you let go of the steering wheel, the cart pulls real bad to the left. Any ideas as to what is wrong, and how i can fix it? thanks for any help Last edited by smokey tennis shoe; 10-17-2012 at 09:55 PM.. Reason: i typed wrong voltage |

Re: cart keeps pulling to left when I let go of wheel
Look at it like this, if it was your car you would say it needs a front end alignment, and when they do the alignment they check for what is loose or worn. So you need to jack up the front of your cart and check for what is loose or worn. There is a number of things that can be wrong under there, tie rod ends, bushings, wheel bearings, or loose bolts. If you are not comfortable doing this, find a friend who works on cars (or carts) and get him (or her) to help look at it. With out looking at it myself, that's as close as I can get.
I hope this helps you some. |

Or maybe if you put two new tires in front that might solve the problem.

Re: cart keeps pulling to left when I let go of wheel
I am assuming the passenger side wheel is well worn as well and I also am assuming it did not do this until after the tire swap. So you have a new wheel on one side with a larger diameter, which to me would make it pull left.
If you had the situation on your car it would be normal to replace both tires at the same time. But I am probably wrong like Scotty says. Check your alignment before you do anything that will cost money. |

Re: cart keeps pulling to left when I let go of wheel
The front passenger tire is fine no wear at all on it.
Now that i put a new tire on the front driver side, that makes both front tires the same size and condition. Still, the cart moves so badly to the left, it almost makes a left turn with no hands on the wheel. I don't mind jacking up the cart, but am not sure what i am looking for. |

How do you tell if a tie rod end needs replacing, by looking at it? What am I looking for?

Re: cart keeps pulling to left when I let go of wheel
When you have the cart up off the ground, you'll see the tie rod ends and you will need to grab the tire and move it back and forth just a little bit and watch for what has too much play in it, or hold the wheel and turn the steering wheel back and forth a little bit and see what has too much movement in it. Compare the drivers side to the passengers side to tell what has too much play. Remember, you only want to turn the steering wheel or move the tire just enough to see what's loose. When the cart is sitting on the ground and the wheels are pointed straight ahead, do they look the same?? Are both tires pointed straight ahead, are both tops of the tires sitting up straight?? Is the wheel bearing tight? Again, when you move the tire back and forth, dose it fell loose?
