Default Overcharging?

I plugged my charger in last night, about 6 PM. Its still charging now at 9 AM, it seems to get down to the 5 amp range on the charger gauge and stay there for a while.

Long while. meanwhile it gurgles and bubbles a lot. I take the caps off when I charge, after checking water.

Second question, after charging, what is best to rinse or wash battery tops with. Even with the caps on, I get a lot of water/acid on the battery tops?

. . . normal charge cycle can last up to 16 hours . . . "gurgles/bubbles" are gassing, which is normal . . . only fill cells with distilled water and only cover plates about 1/4 inch . . . if you fill too high, spillage from gassing will happen . . . I just rinse my batteries off with hose, occasionally use spray can battery cleaner to neutralize acid spillage around compartment . . . others may do differently . . .

what year? and yes as steve said can take up to 16 hours and staying at 5 amps or less for several hours is normal, but charger should then shut off regardless......if it dosn,t it could be an indication of OBC gone bad........................................

Thanks, it does shut off, just didnt know it normal. First buggy.
I try to keep it low on the fills, but the whoops factor gets me sometimes.
Need one of those self stopping battery fill jugs.

Thanks gang.
