Question 1991 36 volt club car solenoid

I have 36 volts at the small post on the solenoid(yellow wire) when pedal is pushed but solenoid does not click. I have replaced the solenoid and get the same result. What am I missing?

Welcome to BGW!

The solenoid needs + on one small post and - on the other small post to activate.

Ok. Thank You! So if I have 36 volts at both small terminals when the pedal is pushed is this new solenoid bad? I see some models have a diode or something between the posts and this one did not when I replaced the solenoid. Should it have?

You should have to protect the solenoid contacts in the long run but it will not stop the solenoid or the cart from running...

What I am trying to explain is that you need positive 36v to 1 small terminal and negative 36v to the other to activate (click) the solenoid.... it is possible to get a bad old and new solenoid but not very likely.

If you have 36v + or 36v- to both of them it is not going to work.

Ok. That all makes sense. Think I will try another solenoid. With the negative lead of my meter on the battery pack main ground and the positive on either small terminal with the pedal pushed I get voltage. I am testing it right? Right?

put a lead on each small solenoid terminal, press the gas, you should get 36v. If not the solenoid will not work.

There is not only voltage but polarity you must test for.

ok. I put a lead on each of the small terminals, pushed pedal and got nothing. I think the microswitch is ok because the wire going to the solenoid from the switch has voltage when the pedal is pushed. Now what should I check for. Bad ground?
