Default Led rocker switch to head/tail lights

Hello all, long time watcher, first time poster
I have a 36v ezgo txt. I have a headlight bundle that I want to remove the pull switch and replace it with an LED rocker switch. The light bundle has two wires (pos/Neg). How can I accomplish this feat? I have wired it in every combination and permutation. And either the light stays on or the lights are off while the led switch indication illuminates. The led switch has 3 poles. One for acc one for source and one for ground. The headlights are powered from and grounded to the reducer. Obviously I want the led to indicate on when lights are on. Any help is greatly appreciated

The switch should work (on/off) with the two existing wires. In order to illuminate the switch you need to add the ground to it. Use the same ground that is used for the lights themselves.

I'm still not sure that will work.
Reason I say that is because the lights are already tied into the reducer sending power and the ground to the end terminals of the light harness up front and tied into the pull switch.

I installed these switches too. But I used an auxiliary battery (instead of the reducer) wired to a fuse block and from the fuse block circuits on to the switches and to the accessories exactly as indicated in Culln5’s nice diagram.

The lights should be tied into the pull switch by one wire bringing in the 12v source and the the other wire taking the current on to the lights when the switch is activated. I think the ground in the diagram of the rocker is to allow illumination of the switch. I think the switch would work as your pull switch if you connected the wires from the pull switch to the rocker switch and leave the ground terminal vacant. However, the rocker will not illuminate until a ground wire is connected.

The lights couldn't already be tied into the power source from the reducer and the ground or they would burn all of the time regardless of the switch. If the pull switch controls the lights then it is breaking the flow of current as it should.

If this is not correct, someone speak up. It will not hurt my feelings.

Sorry, Culln5. I think I just said the same thing you did except in many more words :(

@nobogez42
Yes I think you're right. I was thinking about it at bed time (do my best thinking there) I guess I just assumed that one wire going to the pull was ground and one was +. Now I understand that one is pos and the other is accessory. So I Need to find which one is hot and which one is acc. Then tap in to ground. I am new to electric work so this baffled me for a spell. Thanks all for the insight. It really clarified things for me.

I have a precedent and just hooked the switch up to the Neg lead of the voltage meter hook up. It does work.
