Toggle switch for cheap 36v to 12v reducer?
I purchased a cheap 36 to 12v reducer on eBay. I have been reading a little bit about even when accessories are not in use, the reducer is still draining the batteries.
*First off is this true? *Second if this is true I don't want to wire the reducer to the two position key switch ( I have a 3 year old and do not want the cart on and risk her pressing the peddle and taking off), I would rather just put in a toggle switch to open the 36v feed circuit to the reducer similar to the tow run switch for the motor. * Is this really needed? |

Re: Toggle switch for cheap 36v to 12v reducer?
I have mine switched. Mine was from an electrical parts store with some heavy duty volt and amp ratings. A switch like the tow run would be great. I saw a good one on another site but can remember where but I am gunna get one because it had blade style terminals compared to mine which are screw type. I will let you know when I find it.

Re: Toggle switch for cheap 36v to 12v reducer?
Well I foun it at a place clled thye cart depot, just search tow run switch, about $20 plus shipping, not what I consider cheap, but its better than my current switch, afrid those wires will come loose off the screw terminal and cause me spark problems which could lead to bigger problems.
Maybe one of the site sponsors has one of these |

Yes, the reducer will drain the battery even when off. I bought a switch like the one above from Advance Auto for about $8. I think it is rate at 30 amps.

Re: Toggle switch for cheap 36v to 12v reducer?
Just get a toggle switch at your local parts store, get one rated 30 amps, they work nicely and much cheaper. You shouldn't have issues with 36 or 48 volts as they typically rated for much more.

I used a toggle switch I bought from Home Depot. I prefer one with leads. I butt spliced the lines with heat shrink, crimp style butt splices. Cheap, easy, fast install.
