Default 2008 CC Precedent Just Stopped Running (48v)

We were riding through the pasture at about half speed and after about 20 minutes, the cart just slowed to a stop. It seemed to do fine going in reverse. If I let it sit for a minute or two it would go for about 20 yards and then stop again. It did that 2 or 3 times and then it just started working again. We didn't have anymore issues with it after that. We're back home now and it seems to be charging fine.

We had a full charge and nothing seems to be loose. Batteries and cables are only about 3 months old.

Any ideas? Seems like something may be starting to go out possibly.

Thanks for any help.

Quick update - the charger has turned off and the volt meter is reading 52.8, so all appears normal, however there is a strong rotten egg smell that is not normal. Not sure if this really means anything or not. Water levels look fine as well.

smell is the batteries charging, usually means one or more is getting weak. I would double check each connection, take each one off clean them and put back on. also look at the connections at the motor itself (there is an access panel to do that) good luck with it. [paul

I thought about that last night and I'm going to go pick up a hydrometer today, but I'm struggling with it being a battery issue as the batteries are only 3 months old.

I added water to them about 2 weeks ago.....I know its not ideal to overfill them and I don't believe I did, but could overfilling them be creating an issue?

Thanks again for all the help.

. . shouldn't . . overfilling will cause spillage during the gassing process, which could be the "rotten egg" smell you experience, and that could also be a bad battery, even though "new" . . .

Another quick update - I called and spoke with the dealer that sold me the cart and she said that they have a lot of issues with the speed sensor if you're driving it through rough terrain and/or high grasss because of its location on the rear axle.

The pasture we were driving through was rather rough and had just been shredded, but had a lot of "sticks" if you will that were rubbing the bottom of the cart.

Is she blowing smoke or could this really be a possibility?

Slowing forward and fine in reverse sounds like speed sensor to me. Here is the test........

yes thats also possible but always start with basics, batteries and cables......70% of the time you need go no futher and as mentioned even new batteries can be bad...................................

Thanks for the information erict. I'll try the test when I get home this evening.

Shadowman - I'm also going to still do the hydro test as well as check individual batteries with a handheld to ensure I don't have a bad one somewhere.

Thanks again for all the advice and helpful tips. Hopefully I'll get good enough at this electric golf cart thing someday to pay it forward.
