Default cathode, which way

I started following all my wires to check which wires broke or fried, due to flooded cart. I found a gray/white wire separated by a nte5814 diode, going to a gray wire that leads to the 16 pin plug on my motor controller. I bought the diode, but did not pay attention to the way it faces. Seller of diode said it was very important putting it back in line facing the right way. Anybody knows? This diode is not far from the 16 pin plug inside the wiring harness,(maybe 6 inches or so). Mine was covered in a plastic housing.

According to my wiring diagram, the cathode faces towards the the 16 pin connector.

Thanks for the help! But not trying to sound to stupid does that mean I connect the banded side of the diode to the gray wire and the un-banded side to the gray/white wire? By the way that diagram sounds it may help me for further checks, can I get a copy?

My 07 service manual only shows a grey wire at both sides of the diode. (no grey/white)
The banded side (cathode) should go towards the connector.

If you told me the model (DS/Precedent) and the year of your cart, I may be able to find something for you after work today.

I have an 04 ds, iq. I have not found any diagrams with the diode showing in it. I will try what you said, i did buy 3 of them just in case i fry it. Just did not want to fry anything else. Oh, by the way, it is not the gray wire coming from where you charge up the batteries. On my diagram I do have a gray wire with a fuse and its is a bigger gauge wire. The one I am talking about is going into the 9 pin of the plug. (the diagram is upside down, the plug can not be turned around to match diagram, because of the little locking deally on plug won't match up. Looking at the actual golf cart the gray wire looks like it can be number 16 pin, but because of colors matching diagram it is probably number 9.

Great news!!!! I got a diagram from club car in Baton Rouge for a 08. It had a diagram of the diode. The black stripe faces the controller. (in case anybody wanted to know that) I put it in, and the cart is running!!!!!! So carts that go underwater like mine does have hope. I only changed the MCOR and motor controller, but did not put either in until checking all the wires and found that little diode broken off of a wire. It may have only been that little $1.94 diode.

Now what about the resistor that goes on the solenoid. I bought one. I know it is not necessary, but I rather put it back. Is there a certain way it has to face. Again no diagram on facing which way. Diagrams only show there is one. It has gold on one end 2 other colors and dark pink on the other end. Does it really mater which way?
