Fault light comes on when you let off accelerator . Cart runs good other than the light coming on.

By fault light do you mean the amber battery light?

The amber light comes on when the computer thinks that you have 25% of your battery capacity remaining. It is just a "warning" light and does not indicate any type of failure. The computer estimates the remaining capacity by knowing the voltage and using a rough assumption that a fully charged 48V battery system will measure about 51 volts and one down to 25% will measure about 47 volts. Assuming the light is working properly it means that your batteries are dropping down to 47 volts. When you take the load off the batteries the voltage will recover a bit and will go back above 47 volts, and the light will go off.

If your batteries are 4 years old or so or have seen a lot of charge/discharge cycles I suspect the batteries are nearing the end of their life.

There are 2 ways to determine their health. One is to measure the specific gravity of each cell and see if they are all where they should be. Another way is to just get in the cart, put the pedal to the metal, and see how long they last ( a load test ). This is the most foolproof way to test batteries. Believe it or not, healthy batteries should allow you to go full throttle ( assuming no mods that would be 19.6 mph ) for about 90 minutes before the amber light comes on steady.
