Default Bent driveshaft?

The 1996 Club Car Electric I just picked up and put new batteries in runs
fine. EXCEPT it makes a "groaning" sound at TOP speed...usually downhill.
When I questioned the previous owner, he said, "didn't I mention it has
a bent driveshaft?" No he didn't.
However...what is a bend driveshaft and how will it affect this cart?
Repair cost estimate?
many thanks!

Bent Driveshaft huh? Ask him to locate that driveshaft for you and send me a picture of it. I think what he's referring to is a worn out guide-ring in the end of the motor shaft.

If the assumption is correct then the part is +-$5 (part # 101789101) but the tiny tube of adhesive Loctite 4211 is a bit more expensive.

You're 100% correct

Default Re: Bent driveshaft? Guide ring replacement.

Thanks guys for the diagonoses. I have removed the 48 volt motor....no easy task. FIRST....I have glued a new guide ring in and will wait at least
24 hours before putting in the retaining ring. The old GR looked fine to me but replaced anyway.
BEFORE I reinstall the Motor....
What else could be bad. As I stated originally...the motor and cart ran fine.
There was a slight knocking sound in reverse as you engage the accelerator.
When driving the cart in forward it ran fine and quiet as long as there was resistance (accelerating or uphill). Once you found top speed with the accelerator buried a groaning sound began (downhill).
I am assuming that the replacement of the guide ring will correct this.
BUT I do not want to have to pull this motor again....not sure how I'm going to get it back into the cart now (may turn the cart on it's side as I have pulled the batteries to get to the motor). Any other part that could be bad,
I'd like to replace now. Suggestions or others experiences.
THANKS

Had a 96 CC with the same problem. Fine as long as under power or uphill. But as soon as top speed was hit and no resistance on motor it would groan. Must of been the rear end as I changed rear end and kept same motor and no more groaning. Not saying it isn't the motor, but mine was the rearend!!

Thanks to all who helped my post or previous posts from others.
I researched and researched....everyone said replace the guide ring
and noise will stop. I replaced it and NOISE STOPPED.
Was not very confident as the old GR looked fine to me.
I also changed the oil in the differential while I was down there.
Changed to Mobile 1 synthetic ....75W-90 even though 30W
was recommended. Quiet as can be.
THANKS!!

Glad it worked. Very common problem. I used to see it a lot.
