Default Precedent Front Canopy Struts

A friend has a 6 year old Precedent. When you push on the front canopy struts the entire strut/windshield assembly moves as if the attaching bolts were loose. I have checked the bolts and they are tight. When I push on the struts on my cart they are as solid as a rock. I looked underneath my cart today and it appears that there is one bolt (self - threading ? ) that goes through the strut, through what appears to be part of the fiberglass body, and then contacts the steel "instrument panel" beam. The bolt only contacts the steel brace as it first enters the beam. It then goes through the beam and comes out the back of the beam through a hole larger than the bolt.

Any idea why the bolts are tight and yet the canopy braces are loose?

Is it possible that the the fiberglass body is cracked where it contacts the strut and that is allowing the movement?

. . . you don't specify year, but the 2005 thru 2007 Precedent has two M8-1.25x65 (might be button head) bolts that mount the front canopy strut on each side . . . if bolts are tight, then possibly what they are screwed into (frame) may have an issue . . . wait until someone that has had one apart or has had similar problem reads your thread . . I own a DS . . .

Problem solved, but still confused.

The bolts that connect the front canopy struts to the frame are supposed to be:
M8-1.25x65 Tx Bttn Hd Bolt

I have those bolts from Club Car and they match the bolts that were in the cart with the loose canopy. They were very tight.

When I looked into the loose canopy issue I discovered that the bolts go through the frame and into a threaded hole in the strut. For whatever reason the bolts are a bit too long. They thread into the strut, but as you try to tighten them the threaded end of the bolt pushes up against the opposite side of the strut. You can make the bolts very tight, but all you are doing is pushing against the back side of the strut.

I solved the problem by putting an approx 1/8" spacer between the bolt head and the frame. That was barely enough ( all I had ) since the bolt still seems to touch the back surface of the strut.

The bolt could be much shorter than "65" and still do the job. Why would Club Car use bolts that long. Anyone else have a loose canopy?
