Default 88' club car ds how to make faster??

I have a 1988 club car ds stock motor it goes like 17 mph. How do I increase the speed. I have the 5 solenoids in series with resistors. Please anyone know how to make fast as possible. It's electric 36v. Thanks!

You are doing very well at 17mph in an old CC like that. I have a '86 CC DS with 5 solenoids (all stock) and it does 13-14 mph flat road.

To get more then 17 mph such as you have (which is great BTW), you will have to replace all the toaster oven parts with electronic speed control and add a couple batteries for 48vdc.

What if I changed the motor to a bigger motor or had it wound to go faster?

Nope. What is holding you back is the stock control system. If you were to convert over to solid state instead of the resistors and solenoids, you would also get a better run time.

ScottyB has a conversion kit that will do what you need.

U say I will get a better run time, but will it increase the Speed? What if i took out the resistors and replaced them with like 4 gauge wire? Thanks!

Then you would lose your speed control. Your motor would be running full blast whenever you touched the pedal.

So the only way to get more speed is to replace the control. And if I replace the control do I keep the stock motor? So just replacing the control and keeping the stock motor will make it go faster? Thanks

No. Replacing the solenoid/resistor setup with a solid state controller will make it more efficient. Then you could think about adding more voltage to make your stock motor spin faster, or a higher rpm motor.

If you're looking for which screw to turn to make your old cart into a dragster, its not gonna happen. Speed costs money.

For speed you are barking up the wrong tree. Speedsters are best built from the Sepex drive system carts. The PDS and IQ systems produce more RPMs easier. The series cart you have is better at producing torque. I hope this helps.

You can do it with this system but it will require a solid state conversion, motor and gear change.
