Default Steering wheel removal 2000 DS

Having trouble removing the steering wheel on my 2000 DS. I pulled the nut but seems to be pressed on. I tapped on the backside of steering wheel (collar area around shaft) using a block of wood and hammer but did not budge. Doesn't appear to be able to use a wheel puller on it. Any ideas?

Put the nut back on so when you are working on it doesn't fly off and hit you in the noggin!. Spray some PB blaster or penetrating oil in it, this will help loosen it. I have found working it side to side helps also, and just keep working it from the bottom, it will come off, eventually!

+1 That is just how I got mine off. It takes time. I used PB blaster and am sold on that product. spray it on, let it work, run the nut up to the very end of the threads so that it sits flush, and then take a wooden spacer (in my case I had a wooden dowel about 2 inches wide by 12 inches long) and then wack the crap out of it with a rubber mallet. Don't use a metal hammer on the nut and bolt setup or you will deform it. Wack it a few times, then work the steering wheel side to side and up to down. It takes awhile, but you'll feel it start to loosen. Repeat with more PB blaster, etc.

If you are still having a problem go to the search bar at the top of the page and type in Removing the steering wheel, you will find any number of solutions on this subject.

Finally got the steering wheel off. Did as advised: used pb blaster, wiggle back and forth and some patience. Put a dab of grease around spline when i put it back on also. A big thanks from mid Michigan for the replies guys.
