Need Help wiring Battery charger
I have an aftermarket cart body, assembled on a aluminum cc frame.
There is no OBC on this cart. The cart is a convertible hot rod body, and has an onboard 48 volt Delta-Q charger. The cart has a 120 volt male receptacle mounted in the body, so all you have to do is run a 120 volt extension cord to the male receptacle, and plug it in. The charger is mounted in the front hood compartment, then wired back to the battery compartment. Here is my sitch : The battery charger has been fried. I want to get rid of the high dollar on board charger, and go with a standard 48 volt cart charger. I will need to remove the male receptacle, and mount a female receptacle in its place, that would be compatable with the off board charger. The existing Delta -Q charger has 4 load wires leaving the charger, red, black, green, and white. I think the red goes to pack positive, I think the white and black might go to pack negative. I have no idea where the green wire goes. Most chargers i have seen only have 2 or 3 load wires in the cord. Since I don't have an obc,i don't need that 3 pin on a club car charger. Can anyone tell me how to wire in the female receptacle, to the cart? also what configuration should I use? I want to make sure the charger shuts off when batteries are charged. Any suggestions on what charger, what cord configuration, and how to wire recept to cart? green wire? |

Re: Need Help wiring Battery charger
would the green wire be for battery light on dash? what gage is it? i,m not sure how your gonna wire it i think that will depend on brand you buy.......the female receptical depending on brand also should just be pos to pos of #1 battery and ground to neg. of#6 battery...........the problem comes in when bypassing OBC it makes it a bit more difficult to wire but there should be instructions with charger guiding you thur proper wiring to bypass OBC...........................

Re: Need Help wiring Battery charger
Shadowman I have not bought the charger yet, but I don't see why it would come with instructions on by passing.
I have taken quite a few 48 volt chargers in the past, and replaced the load side cords and caps to fit a customers cart. i have never had to do any wiring alterations to the cart, when replacing different cord configurations. There doesn't appear to be much club car lookto this cart. the only way i know it was a cc is by the aluminum frame. A shop built this custom cart on top of a cc frame. So my intention was to buy any type of 48 volt cart charger, nothing in particular, then find a matching female receptacle and wire it to the cart. Since most cords have only 2 wires in them ( other than the 3 wire cc cords), i was just going to wire up the positive and negative. Do you see anything wrong with doing this? Any repercutions other than possibly no lock out circuit? |
