CC DS steering shaft too long?
I just picked up an '81 DS that's really in decent shape. I'm going to start an all-winter re-build soon but I have a curious question...
I'm thinking that maybe a PO changed the steering shaft at some point. The wheel is about 2" from the bottom seat padding. It would be difficult to drive it the way it is. I haven't pulled the cowling, ect off yet, but is there an adjustment I should be looking for or might the shaft just not be the right one? If necessary, I'll cut it down. Thoughts? |

Re: CC DS steering shaft too long?
Answered my own question, but for those who care...
The aluminum bracket that holds the steering column has 4 bolts holding it in place. The upper bolts on each side can be loosened (a real P.I.T.A.) and the steering column can then be raised or lowered. This requires removing the front body and steering box bolts. The good news is now I can actually sit in the seat and steer. The PO must have been a toddler.... |
