48 volt motor no room for batteries

I have a 48 volt motor on an old club car but there is only for 6 batteries. It is project that someone else started and I'm sure if I need to change the motorto a 36 volt.

You only need 6 batteries that are 4 cell 8 volt.

Thanks Dude, I'm still checking I'm not sure it is 48. It may be a 36. So rusted can't tell. This is the first solenoid cart we've worked on. We're putting a mustang body on it and running into alot staring and scratching our heads. I'm getting it all on film as we go. gotta find a wiring diagram too. But! I;m having fun learning and getting paid by the hour, so what, me worry?

What makes you think that is a 48 volt motor? It has 3 peddles. About 1983 was the last year they were made. It should be a 5 solenoid 36 volt cart. I suggest anyone building a cart from the frame up, build a running cart BEFORE they put the body on. It's just easier that way .....

If in fact you do have a 48 volt motor it is not the stock one. Club car did not produce a 48 volt Caroche. You should consider 48 volts worth of batteries or using a 36 volt motor because a 48 volt motor will run like a dog on 36 volts.

I found a tag on the frame. I sanded it down and found the numbers A7940. Does that mean it is a 79? We have stopped on the body until we get the cart running first.

The motor is a "general electric" again the tags are so corroded you can't read it and at firt it looked like one of the boxes said "DC48" we cleaned further and now see it says something else.

Anybody have a wiring diagram for an old solenoid system?

What is that last picture of?
You can also use the site search...type in 5 solenoid cart or such......for trouble shooting help

Being a 80's to 90's general motors guy, It acts like a "THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR" it rolls across contacts as you push the go pedal. each color wire goes to a different solenoid.
