Is this a brake light switch?
I have a new to us...96 or 97 DS. I was looking for why or IF we had brake lights. If we do, they do not work so I was looking. There is a black switch with an orange or red wire and a green wire underneath on the driver's side and looks like the pedal mechanism might operate it.....the tail lights have both a brown wire and a red wire going to them. I have an owners manual and also a maintenance manual but cannot find a lighting wiring diagram in them...the running lights work but no brake lights. Am I heading in the right direction?
Thanks. I took a picture of the switch but cannot figure how to post it. |

Re: Is this a brake light switch?
I don't know about your set-up but I only have tail lights that I installed along with the headlights. Do the bulbs look OK? Do the bulbs have one or two elements? If they're 2 elements, then I would think you should have tail and brake lights.

Without seeing the picture of the item in question, I'm not sure if it is or isn't a brake light switch. Trace the path of the RED wires. If it connects to the switch, its for the brake lights and more than likely is bad. I'd check the bulbs to see if they work first though. They're the easiest to check! -Scott H. |
