Default Salvage Club Car from flood

I'm looking to do another cart remodel. I guess I'm addicted now. I want to get another Club Car DS, and like last time, replace everything but the frame, body, transmission, and suspension (if re-usable).

My question: will a flood-salvage cart (including some salt-water flood salvages) typically have rust or corrosion damage in the transmission? Or any serious rust/corrosion issues on other expensive parts like axels?

Keep in mind I will be replacing all wiring, motor, controller, throttle, EVERYTHING in the go-fast department.

I would RUN, not walk, away from anything that was Salt Water flooded!

Salt water will get into places you would never think it could, start corroding from the inside out, and the next thing you know half of your frame is about to fall off!

I would seriously stick to fresh water rescues and upgrading older resistor carts, with my preference being the resistor upgrade scenario.

Silt will have gotten into the transaxle so expect to totally disassemble and clean everything! Like " Scott H " said, I'd pass on anything that's been in salt water. The tires and plastic body parts should be Ok, though.

I had a good friend of mine that bought a flood car one time. He told me that if I ever had the chance to buy a flood vehicle, DON'T!

With the price you can find carts that have not been flood damaged it makes no sense in purchasing one that has been.

In all honesty we would probably refuse a flood damaged cart if someone were to give us one.

As previously mentioned the corrosion will start from the inside of the frame and work it's way out.

We have been watching a lot of "great" deals on high end cars such as Ferrari's, Porsche, Benz etc... Going through the auction houses right now that have been flood damaged, and we love our high end cars, and as tempting as the pricing is we would never purchase one, the headaches are endless.

Without dragging this on to much, you would honestly be better to simply piece a cart together by collecting parts.

Of course this is only our opinion.

The biggest problem of salt-water,is that once you get the Aluminum and Steel away from it,it must be thouroghly cleaned immediately,or the salt will eat it alive.I live in the heart of the Salt-Belt(Western NY,We have one of the Largest Salt-Mines in the world).I've seen what vehichles in the area around the mine look like when they have salt on them, and get normal weather like rain involved. Its' not pretty. The money saved on a Flood-Cart,will be spent+ on the parts that are damaged, where you could have bought a project-cart and be farther ahead.

Well, I am convinced. Will avoid the flood carts. Does anyone know of a good source of a project carts near mid-Mississippi? Looking for a Club Car DS. Most of the Craiglist stuff I've seen can have vines growing out of it, and Bubba still wants $1200 for it.
