86 CC 36V Rough Ride, Shocks?
I have had my 86 CC 36V for 6 years now but admittedly don't know much about upgrading it as it has been trouble free. Replaced batteries last year otherwise thats it.
What I have noticed is the ride has gotten progressively more harsh. To my knowledge everything else is original 86 vintage. Does new shocks help? Or are leaf springs it? I rode in a friends 10 year newer model just like mine and the ride was night and day better. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Jason |

Welcome to the forum Jason5575.................
Check the rear leaf springs. If you have over one leaf, say 3, you have Heavy Duty springs on yours. They are very much needed if you have a rear seat or utility bed on your cart. |

I have a 83 CC and its stiff as a board too. Mine has the stock single leaf.. Its actually alot stiffer than my 2 leaf Egzo.

Old Yeller here is a 1984 CC with single spring. I upgraded it using a 1964 Ford Comet gas shocks. That was before I lifted it. Gave it a very nice ride. I used the coil over shocks off an old quad I had for the front. It has a very smooth ride over any terrain. Just an idea for you.

Re: 86 CC 36V Rough Ride, Shocks?
Thanks for the replies. I just looked and I have a single leaf in the back. This is just a normal cart, no bed or back seat.
I wondered if I could use car shocks on this. So the 64 Falcon shocks went on without any modification? Did you use them front and rear? Did it raise the cart any? I want to keep the cart close to stock height. When looking up shocks for this cart I find the fronts easy, but the rears are harder to find. Keep seeing 88 and up listed. Jason |

Re: 86 CC 36V Rough Ride, Shocks?
No Cuz, I didn`t remove the front spring. At that time I was trying to lift the body a bit to put bigger tires on it . Finally broke down and bought my first lift kit for it. About the only thing left stock on Old Yeller is the frame and motor and rear end....and well most of the wiring. Did go to 2 gauge wires for the batteries. Biggest problem I have is solenoids going after about a year of 48 Volts going thru them. Yea I know go to 48 volt noids. In fact at the moment I have to replace 2 of them as all I have is barely moving and pop a wheelie. Can get hairy when trying to manuver in tight spots. Never took pics of the work. The shocks (front and rear) were an easy direct replacement, no modifications at all. Front bumper is from a Polaris quad that I got off Ebay. I did have to make a bracket for it to fit, but it sure looks good on there. I`ll try and get some pics of the front so you can see the coil overs and the front bumper.
