Thumbs down 81 cc jumps out to full speed

I just bought a used 81 cc, step on pedal and it lurches forward. 36 volt w/5 solenoids. Also batteries read from 5.0 to 5.8v after short ride after charge. Won't charge past 5.8 volts on any battery, need new batts, right? using lester autocharger.

Welcome to BGW

Yep, sounds like the batts are toast. At 6 volts a 6 volt battery is considered dead and needs charging. If you can't get them over 5.8 volts you could possibly have 1 or more bad ones in the set not allowing the others to fully charge.

Often this complaint is caused by one or more of the low speed solenoids failing. Imagine starting out in 3rd gear if you will....

Yup , sounds like the first few solenoids need replacing. I need to do that on Old Yeller here. She goes from moving VERY slow to popping a wheelie when you give it the gas or pedal I should say. And yes ...time to replace batteries. Although you never said how long and far you drive your cart till it won`t move any more.

Never, never, never run the batteries down to where the cart won't move anymore....permenant damage will occure to the batteries if this is done.

Yes I know , but I was wondering how long they would last. BAD batteries will go dead within a few hundred feet sometimes.

Its missing or I shoud say has 2 or 3 bad solenoids in the middle. Just barely hit the pedal and if on flat ground will just barely move, but when you hit the high speed solenoid it will bring the front off the ground for a quick jump. Its a 36 volt 84 CC upgraded to 48 volts using 6, 8 volt batteries. I was lucky enough years ago to land a 48 volt charger so I can charge her properly. Eventually I`ll put 48 volt solenoids in her.

Maybe you should consider converting to a controller to complete your conversion? All those 48v solenoids are gonna cost you nearly half of what it would to be to install a a multi-step conversion and controller. IMO...
