Default Old pre 1990 What can I do?

I just acquired a ragged out Club Car. It must me vey old because it had the bank of solenoids and resistors. I managed to get it to run for a short wile on the very old batteries after flushing the out and refilling with new electrolite.
It has 6 6 volt batteries. Any way I was wondering what my upgrade options were with this old Club Car. Are lift kits and bigger wheels current available?
What about motor options? are there good performance motors available for this old CC? Also i need to get rid of the resistor rig and go solid state. Any advice for this old Club Car?

Thank you

If you can think it, it can be done to that cart. Look at the sponsors sites. Ask here before you begin and you'll be sure to get tips and help. I took an old 89 resistor cart, made it street legal with lift kit, big tires, body wrap, brush guard, lights, wiper, fog lamps, and much more. The plum quick motor and bigger gauge wires really helped me get the speed up too (25 mph).

You can convert this 5 solenoid cart to modern solid state speed control. When you do this they run as well or better than any other series cart. The solenoid and resistor coil speed control is not real conducive to big tires and motors. With a solid state system you can bump the voltage up to 48 and wake that cart up! This helps tremendously, increasing torque and speed by 33%

This is the build of my older cart:

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/membe...-club-car.html

The BEST thing I did for it was to convert it over to a solid state controller system and get rid of the resistor setup.

ScottyB (the person posting above me) has a sweet system to convert it over to solid state and if I could do mine over, I would have gone that route to begin with.

Since he is too modest to post a link for his conversion, here it is:

http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Scotty...rsion_Kit.html

I also converted over to 48 Volts in the process and left the 36 Volt motor in the cart. My old cart flat moves right now and I can't get to full throttle because of a broken V-Glide. My run times are MUCH longer and I don't have the headaches of the constantly breaking resistors and solenoids.

I would honestly suggest getting hold of him and seeing what his recommendations for your cart's electrical system are. You won't be disappointed if you do.

As far as lift kits and rims & tires go, if you check the site sponsors you will find that they are available from a mild 6 inch spindle lift to a wild full tilt double A-Arm front suspension replacement system. The only thing holding you back is how much you want to spend!

I hope this helps,

Thank you all for the replies. Its good to know i can do something with this old cart, It's going to be my new money pit for a wile, Im going to contact Scotty B and get all the goodies the go the 48Volt route. I might as well since my 36v charger is ragged and the 6volt batterys suck. If i go the 48 volt route can use 4 12's ?

Thank you

You can use 12V batteries but you will get more amps and longer running times with 6 8V batteries. If you are doing a rebuild there are certain corners you can cut to save cash but batteries are the heart of the system and I would say get the best you can afford and you won't regret it later.

You won't regret converting to 48 Volts and from speaking to Scotty about his conversion for my cart, you'll absolutely love the results!

Yes, but like was mentioned above by cmar143, you won't be happy with it.

Club Car released some of it's Precedent carts with the four 12 Volt battery setup, but has gone back to the six 8 Volt system due to the complaints they have received about them. You can also find a few threads on here about converting from the Four 12s back to the Six 8s.

Unless things have changed, the cost of a 12 Volt battery pack is much more expensive than the 8 Volt battery pack when I checked on them.

That statement is an opinion only. Many of us run with 4 12 volt batteries and have no issues at all with power, drive-time or battery longevity. If I was doing a complete rebuild, I would change to 6 8 volt batteries, but I would never tear apart a perfectly fine car just to convert the batteries. Look up some older posts on this topic as it has been hashed out before.

Agreed, I think what ScottH was trying to say is that 6/8v drop right into this cart and will provide longer runtime. 4/12vwill require modification in this cart and will provide less runtime. AND cost more to purchase! Not really a question of whether you are happy with your cart LOL
