Thumbs up 96 Club Car Potentiometer

My first post but have read alot and I wanted to say thanks for the information regarding this topic. I purchased a new pot from Radio Shack for $3.50 and it is working! The part number from RS is 271-1714 5K Linear Pot. It was not easy but if I can do it you can too. The range of speed is not as good as the original due to the amount of rotation needed, but for $3.50 vs 500.00 for an MCOR conversion it is worth it.

THANKS to all!

I just ordered a new up date potentiometer for my 96 48 volt club car for $345.00. I wish I knew how you wired yours. Is there anyway you could draw out a diagram for what you did, or a number off the radio shack item?

1996 was, I believe, the only year CC used a potentiometer and 5k-0 signal. It is a rare bird....There are other alternatives beside $350 OEM and $3 radio shack. MOst pots like the Ezgo Marathon replacement unit can be had for under $35 and are easily reversed. Most pots have 3 leads. They use the center one of the outside terminals. Simple switch from one outside terminal to the open one to reverse the pot output. This should give you the correct output and the full range

Yes thanks for the info. I wish I had known this three weeks ago. I have already ordered the $350.00 one and it is on the way, but I will keep this info and if I have trouble in the future I will know what to do. I think the guy I bought it from could have found all this out and the problem could have been resolved before now, but apparently he didn't know or just didn't care, so we all live and learn I guess. Thanks, again for the info. You've all been very helpful.

We have had this discussion before on this forum, hopefully by posting this information again it will show up when somebody else searches for this type of info in the future.

So did you order a MCOR conversion kit?

Yes it has just shipped from AZ., should be here first of the week. I am going to buy the radio shack linear pot, and take it with me to the guy who has my cart and see if we can get it to work, and if it does I will return the $345.00 one. We will see and I will post the results.

The pot boxes were horrible and went out very quickly, (why they only used them for a year!).
The MCOR is a way better setup
