Default precedent obc troubles

I have a 2004 precedent, with 4 twelve volt batteries.

This is what has been happening :

My charger comes on and charges the batteries, then after it shuts itself off, will come back on and start charging again.

Also, sometimes the charger will be hovering around 3 amps for awhile, then it will move back up to around 8 amps.??

Also it sounds like I am cooking the batteries, because they krackel and pop for the longest time after the charger is off.

This is what I have done so far :

I tried a different charger on my cart, and the second charger does this strange stuff also.

I tried the original charger on a different cart, and it worked fine on that cart.

Next, I just installed new batteries. While I was installing the new batteries, I saw that the # 10 red wire was pinched under a battery, and the wire looked like it got smashed. I replaced the smashed part of the wire, hoping this had something to do with the problem. It did not help.

The last thimg I can think of to do, is replace the obc?

The number on my obc is this :

24285-02

LE0413022386

103403201

I can't find these exact replacement numbers????

I see a obc that has 103403201 on it, but the other two numbers are different.

Here is my questions :

Will this new obc, with different numbers work on this cart?

Do you think the obc is causing the problems that I discribed?

If not, what else can it be?

Please help?

So you are saying it is doing the same think on the new bats?

Check the voltage after charging the new bats and get a reading, in fact get a reading before charging as well. New bats act funny with charging, sometimes takes a few charge cycles to get normal.

Prior to the new bats it sounded like you had a bad pack or a bad bat in the pack, I had that happen to me too.

What version is the software in your OBC? It's found on that same tag with all the other information you gave. example: v2.05? v2.06? v3.0? etc...

Let me know.

The version on my tag is 2. something. I cannot read past the number 2.

So can i buy and install this obc to replace it :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121009851443...S:3160&vxp=mtr ?

And yes, i installed 4 new 12 volt us batteries, and am still having the similar issues I had before the new batteries.

I am hoping by buying and installing this new obc, that will fix whatever the issue is?

Sure it'll fix that issue. But it may bring along other issues you don't wish to deal with. I'd buy one from a dealer or a site sponsor. The one on EBAY is a version 3.0. The latest is a 5.5

david

A couple questions :

In the future, if i want to replace an obc, if the club car part number is the same, but the version is different, the obc can be interchangeable?

Granted a higher version number should be better, but if the version number is the same, or a little newer ( but not the newest), it should work ok?

And you said the obc i referred to above should fix his problem, can you tell what the problem is and what is causing it?

Version has nothing to do with mounting style or what car it fits. It's nothing more than a software version. For example, a version 3.0 OBC may be available for three or four different applications, but will carry the same software, but a different part number depending on application. If you order from a Club Car dealer all you have to do is provide them with a part number for the OBC you are replacing, their system will automatically replace that number with the new one to ensure you get the latest one. I've heard better things about the 5.0 and newer versions than I have about the others. They incorporate longer charge times to better equalize batteries and minimize sulfation.
