Default Need clarification on 6x8volt conversion

I have read thru the stickie and need a little clarification from the pros on this site. Can I convert my 04 Precedent from 4x12volt to 6x8Volt by just modifing the battery tub and building new wires? Is the factory OBC, and all other factory electronics going to be o.k.? Will my factory powerdrive (I think it is a powerdrive 1) charger still work? Thanks for the help

I am no 'pro', but as far as I know, yes. 48v is 48v...

When you decide to make the conversion, you might as well upgrade the controller, solenoid and wires. You are gonna have to take all of that stuff out anyway as you can't leave it in the "factory" configuration. Even an extra 100 amps (stock is 250) will make a nice difference and give you options down the road for a new/better motor.

That is true if you get a kit to convert but not true if you modify the bucket yourself as outlined in the thread inthe stickies.

Yes you can modify the bucket and convert to 8 volt bats. You can most likely use your current obc. As for the charger, I am not sure but would most likely be ok. Another optikn is to het a dpi charger and bypass the obc. A dpi charger is around $270

I was planning on modifying the bucket and leaving electronics in their factory location. I was hoping everything else would work as i am rebuilding the entire cart and trying to keep the cost down for the first stage of the rebuild, I am sure there will be more upgrades in the future but would like to be able to do the conversion and use the cart while i save up more money for upgraded electronics

That is great news. Keep everyone posted and take pics so we can see your results. I guess I'll be doing the same thing when my batteries finally die!
