Voltage reducer confusion!
I've got this voltage reducer with + battery, - battery, +12v accessory out, and -12v accessory ground out. But If I connect my pack direct to the reducer it'll always be on. I've read a ton of threads but they are all over the map. If I can get an answer on this I'll do a install "how to" with pics and put it on here for others. All I want to do is have it be a key activated reducer. Not a direct connect that runs at all times.
How do I have this reducer, wired to pack+ and pack - be a keyed setup? It's pretty simple to understand that the two go to the pack and the other two go to the accessory block but short of putting a toggle under my seat or running a bunch of wire just to have the toggle on the dash, is there a wire I can tap into for the pack + that will only active the reducer when the key is on? I think the answer is NO but thought I'd ask. If not, I think I'll install that toggle right next to the Run/Tow switch... BTW, 06 CC Precedent, 500amp Alltrax, HD Solenoid, etc. Thanks in advance!!! Let's do some mods today!!!!!!!! |

Re: Voltage reducer confusion!
This can be done!
Wire a new positive lead from the keyswitch to a 48 volt contactor (small post). Wire a new negative lead from the pack to the 48 volt contactor (other small post). Wire a new positive lead from the pack to the 48 volt contactor ( large post) Wire from other large post on 48 volt contactor to the 48 volt in on the reducer. Wire 48 volt negative from pack to voltage reducer. This will provide power to the reducer when key is turned on and isolate the amps (keeping them out of the keyswitch) I use this setup on my cart - u just need to get the contactor! |

Re: Voltage reducer confusion!
Offtwice, I think I got that except is the contactor another name for a solenoid? Is that the same thing basically? Do you have a amperage/voltage rating for that part or a part # maybe? I visualize it as a solenoid type function. Thanks for the post.!

Re: Voltage reducer confusion!
Yes - solenoid / contactor is same thing. You will need a 48 v solenoid if you have 48 volt pack.

Re: Voltage reducer confusion!
Hmmmm... Would my old solenoid that I replaced with the new HD solenoid a week ago work for that application?

Re: Voltage reducer confusion!
On my Voltage reducer there are two small guage wires (approx 16g) and two large guage wires (maybe 10g). A black and a red for each. The smaller guage red has an inline fuse. Am I correct in thinking that the small guage wires are the IN wires for the 48volts and the two larger wires are the two 12v outs that go to the fuse block? That seems so backwards in my mind. Seems like the 48v would need the larger wires and the little 16g (or so) would be the 12v outs. Am I correct on this? Not sure why I'm suddenly questioning myself on this...

Re: Voltage reducer confusion!
Mine was the same way. The larger wires are for the 12v outs...
