Default Front wheel bearing play and maintenance

In getting ready for the spring, I was looking to see what maintenance might be required on my '99 DS. It is golf course use only but due to age, I was first inspecting the front end suspension. I jacked up the front end and while the wheels are off the ground, the wheels spin freely but found there was some play in the wheel/hub when I wiggle them on axis with the hub. Is a bit of play normal? I would guess the play is 1/16 to an 1/8 of an inch to give you a sense of the amount of play, but this is difficult to measure. I suspect the front bearings have never been repacked or replaced. Is repacking bearings something that should be done as maintenance every 14 or 15 years ......

Thanks

. . . yes, especially in a "sandy" environment . . DS front bearings are probably Timken style cone bearings, similar to an automobile, held in/adjusted with a castle nut and cotterpin . . . disassemble, clean, repack and adjust just like a car . . .

Thanks for the reply. Before I start the task, are you typically able to remove the bearing seals and reuse? They're cheap, but wonder if I should have them in hand before pulling to repack.

. . I never reuse seals . . . for the price, always replace them . . . almost impossible to remove without damaging . . .
